From an RWTH spin-off to a European logistics specialist

Büroflur mit sichtbarem elexon-Logo an einer blauen Wand.

elexon was founded in 2019 within the RWTH Aachen University technical community as a joint venture between SMA Solar Technology, AixControl, and aixACCT charging solutions. Rooted in power electronics, control systems, and fast-charging technology, this engineering DNA still defines our products today.

Since the end of 2023, our company is fully owned by the VAROPreem Group – a pan-European energy conglomerate with operations ranging from refining and biofuels to a public network of gas stations The move was strategic in two respects: VAROPreem is steadily expanding its commitment to the mobility transition, while elexon is strengthening its investment capacity to deliver large-scale projects across the European logistics sector at a pace rarely seen in the market.

Today, elexon develops, builds, and operates charging infrastructure for the cutting edge of European logistics – from parcel services and freight forwarders to heavy-duty fleets. With engineering from Aachen, energy from VAROPreem, and service in 21 countries.

Connecting green and growth for tomorrow.

We don’t believe that sustainability has to come at the expense of profitability. We are proving otherwise with charging infrastructures that decarbonize logistics while lowering the total cost of ownership. Economic sustainability starts today, not tomorrow.

Our mission is clear:

Making the European logistics sector economically successful as it transitions to electric mobility. Not as an obligation, but as a driver of growth.

Our vision:

A Europe where every logistics depot is an energy hub: connected, renewable, and resilient. We are building that vision. Step by step.

What carries us:

  • Deep engineering expertise rooted in RWTH Aachen and backed by the experience gained from 38,000 installed charging points.
  • The energy expertise and strong investment capacity of the VAROPreem Group as our parent company.
  • 95 people who understand the realities of logistics, energy, and engineering.

Charging solutions

We connect what belongs together.

Charging infrastructure in logistics rarely fails because of individual components. It fails at the interfaces between hardware, grid connection, load management, billing and service. That is exactly where we come in.

elexon provides end-to-end charging infrastructure solutions from a single source, including AC wallboxes and DC fast chargers, batterie storage and PV, electrical installation, metal work, grid connection and civil engineering, smart energy and load management, billing, monitoring, and service.

You can choose the complete package or individual components tailored to your existing infrastructure. In either case, we coordinate grid operators, civil engineering contractors, planning partners, installation partners, supplier, hardware and software providers, and public authorities, eliminating complexity and ensuring smooth project delivery.

The result: one point of contact, clear responsibilities, and  charging infrastructure that goes live reliably and efficiently.

Combined expertise for robust infrastructure

Expert knowledge across all trades

In a typical charging infrastructure project for a logistics depot, electrical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, planning and engineering, energy management, and billing backend all work together, each with its own requirements, priorities, and risk profile.

We manage every discipline from a single source, combining our own engineering teams for planning, design, and construction management with a qualified partner network for installation and civil engineering, as well as dedicated specialists for commissioning, monitoring, and operations.

After commissioning, you receive complete documentation, training for your on-site personnel, and a clearly defined handover to operations. What we retain: responsibility, service levels, and availability. What you gain: standard-compliant charging infrastructure in accordance with the current state of art that operates reliably and integrates seamlessly into your operational processes.

What this means for you:

  • A single point of contact instead of managing multiple stakeholders
  • Less complexity and coordination effort throughout the project
  • Clear responsibilities from initial planning to ongoing operation
  • Reduced project and operational risks
  • Seamless handover into full-scale operation
  • Long-term service and support from elexon
  • Standard-compliant charging infrastructure in accordance with the current state of art
  • Complete transparency and control over your charging infrastructure

A reliable partner network

99.87% availability.

Not a marketing claim, but measured operational performance. This figure reflects the annual operational availability of our charging infrastructure in live operation at Deutsche Post, based on data collected throughout 2024.

For logistics operators, this means your charging points are available when your vehicles need them, not the next business day.

Here’s how we achieve it:

  • Rugged, robust electrical engineering based on standard components, easier to maintain, faster to repair, and significantly more cost-effective over their lifecycle than PCB-based competitor products
  • Service teams distributed across Germany, no central call centre and no subcontractor chain, just dedicated in-house and contracted teams on the ground
  • 24/7 availability
  • On-site diagnostics and repairs, with replacement or return service being the exception rather than the rule
  • More than 18 million analyzed charging sessions forming the data foundation for our predictive monitoring

From storage facility to energy hub

Illustration eines nachhaltigen Energiesystems mit Ladeinfrastruktur, Photovoltaik und Batteriespeicher.

Logistics depots are becoming smart energy systems.

Today, a modern logistics depot is more than a loading area and parking lot. It is a generator, storage facility, consumer, and grid connection point all in one, integrated into a system that intelligently manages and economically optimizes energy flows.

We plan and implement these energy hubs holistically, from energy audits and system design through installation and commissioning to day-to-day operations.

Service is where we make a difference.

Availability starts long before a malfunction occurs

Anyone can sell a charging station. What matters is keeping it reliable enough to charge the first truck of the day, even five years later.

Our Operations Center monitors charging infrastructure around the clock. Anomalies such as declining charging performance, frequent charging interruptions, or unusual temperature readings are detected before they affect operations. This allows us to intervene before a fault becomes downtime.

Our in-house and contracted specialists provide fast support across Germany whenever service is needed. Short response times, dedicated points of contact, and dependable service help ensure the long-term availability and operational reliability of your charging infrastructure.

Clear processes for long-term operational reliability

From basic service packages for commercial charging solutions to premium SLAs for 24/7 logistics operations with guaranteed response and recovery times. Clearly defined, billed monthly, and adaptable to your requirements at any time.

Every maintenance task is planned in the ticketing system, coordinated with the site, carried out, documented, and quality assured. You receive maintenance logs that stand up to scrutiny in ESG reports and corporate audits.

What you get: maximum availability, predictable service costs, and a dedicated contact person who knows your system.

Reliable · smart · efficient

Electric truck charging – where profitability is made

Electric trucks run quietly, with low emissions, and at lower energy costs. But their cost-effectiveness is not determined by the vehicle itself. That’s decided at the depot.

We plan, build, and operate depot charging infrastructure that gets heavy-duty fleets ready to roll – with predictable energy costs and maximum utilization.
